Against the backdrop of accelerating the global green energy transformation, the hydrogen energy industry has become one of the fastest growing industries in the global energy sector. The analysis report "Hydrogen Energy Insights 2023" jointly released by the International Hydrogen Energy Commission and management consulting firm McKinsey shows that with the strong growth of the global hydrogen energy industry, global direct investment in hydrogen energy is expected to reach US$320 billion by 2030. The "International Hydrogen Energy Technology and Industry Development Research Report 2023" released by the Hydrogen Energy Branch of Industrial Development Promotion Association predicts that global hydrogen energy demand will increase to 10 times the current level by 2050, and the output value of the hydrogen energy industry chain will exceed US$2.5 trillion by then.

CO2 Separation and Capture during Combustion

Separating and capturing carbon dioxide from the exhaust gas produced during the combustion process is the CC (carbon dioxide capture) part of CCUS (carbon dioxide capture, utilization and storage). From the perspective of cost and technology, "chemical absorption" is suitable for thermal power plants, "physical adsorption" is suitable for chemical plants, and "membrane separation" is suitable for cement plants and steel plants.

1. Chemical absorption method (amine solution)

In order to produce high quality CO2, it is important to measure and monitor CO2 and impurity gases during the separation, capture, purification, and pre- and post-processing of CO2.

Pretreatment: Generally, sulfur-containing gases in flue gas are removed by desulfurization. SO2 gas needs to be measured and monitored during the desulfurization process , and CO2 gas needs to be measured and monitored after desulfurization .

Separation, capture and purification: During the chemical absorption process, monitoring the CO2 gas concentration, pH value and conductivity of the amine solution to understand whether CO2 reacts with the amine solution in the absorption column and is captured is a necessary condition for optimizing the control of the device.

Post-treatment: The amount of adsorbed CO 2 can be determined by measuring the solution after adsorption with a TOC analyzer. At the same time, the separation of CO 2 can also be determined by measuring the solution itself after the CO 2 separation process with a TOC analyzer . In addition , the excess gas after the removal of CO 2 needs to be treated and the exhaust gas condition needs to be monitored to confirm that it has reached a level that can eventually be discharged from the chimney.

2. Physical adsorption method

By using Raman microscopy to observe adsorption and other state changes occurring on the zeolite surface, the bonding state of the substance can be captured and you can evaluate the performance and degradation of the adsorbent.

3. Membrane separation

By measuring the amount of carbon attached to the separation membrane after the reaction and the sulfur content in the catalyst to determine its degradation degree, the reaction efficiency of the separation membrane and the membrane replacement cycle can be predicted.
